I can't tell you how many emails I've sent to publications and stations and have received no response. It's something you have to learn to navigate. Honestly, not receiving a response is worse than receiving a half-ass response or a rejection. I get it, they probably get hundreds of emails a day. The issue is that I'm not just referring to the larger stations and pubs- I'm talking about local, smaller blogs and college stations.
I've also noticed it's very hard to find who the right contact is for a publication or station because many have removed the music editor position or station manager position. The prevelance of digital audio streaming has made it harder to receive coverage in places that matter. Sure, it's amazing to be able to publish my own music online and promote as I please, but it definitely has added to the overwhelming saturation of available music online. Everyone and anyone can be a musician these days. So how do I stand out? That's where I'm struggling right now in my music career.
